Maintenance instructions: how to read and remember them
Share
Hello friends, here we are with a new article on this blog. Grab a coffee and enjoy your read!
Today we're talking about clothing care labels and symbols. I've noticed this is a tricky topic for many of my clients, and that for many it's difficult to learn them, but especially to remember them when we're in front of the washing machine.
Personally, when I need to remember them, I have a specific method, which I'll explain now.

First, here are the main symbols you'll find on any label and their meaning.
How to remember them:
Row 1: Washing type. Here we find machine wash, hand wash, and the maximum recommended temperatures specified within the design. Easy to remember because it resembles a tub full of water.
Row 2: Drying. This might seem complicated, but just think of the shape of a dryer, a metal box, therefore square. Clearly, if this symbol has an X over it, it means you cannot use the dryer.
Row 3: Ironing. The symbol speaks for itself; the shape is that of an iron, often accompanied by dots inside. The more dots there are, the higher the maximum temperature allowed for ironing.
Row 4: Bleaching. This indicates whether or not you can add bleach or whitening products to your laundry. Here we have two options: yes, or a big X over it. How to remember this symbol? By associating the triangle with danger (like road signs), in this case, danger associated with chemicals.
There are many other symbols, in reality, but it's best to start with the basics.
Remember that knowing how to read clothing labels is important, and following the instructions is not optional. One wrong wash and bye-bye beloved outfit. No, sometimes the situation isn't that drastic, but know that even if you think "I'll wash everything together, they've always come out perfect," in reality, the fabric molecules could get damaged without you suspecting it, and your garment might last less than expected.
So, learning to read also means saving money... and tears over spilled soap!
See you in the next article.
