Linen garment care

The question I receive most often from customers is precisely about the maintenance of linen garments. Often, what prevents them from choosing this fabric is that:

1) it wrinkles easily

2) it is a natural fabric and therefore needs special care

3) it is easily damaged with use.

The only point I agree with is the first one; linen, like all natural fabrics, wrinkles easily and needs to be ironed. But be careful, precisely because it is a natural fabric, it is very easy to iron!

I don't know if you've ever tried to iron a synthetic fabric, rayon, or polyester, but often the creases remain, and you have to resort to complicated methods. With linen, this problem doesn't exist; it handles high temperatures very well, with or without steam, and in one pass, the creases disappear.

Another tip is to hang the garment properly after washing. Lying flat or on a hanger limits the formation of annoying new creases (like those from clothespins) and will make it easier to iron.

Regarding the other two points, you should know that linen is one of the most resistant fabrics (provided it is of good quality). I recommend washing it at a maximum of 30°C with a delicate spin cycle. This way, you will keep the color intact over time, and its structure will not change; on the contrary, it will become softer and more beautiful the more you wear it.

Linen, in fact, has the ability to adapt to the body, it warms with our natural heat and is a caress on the skin; no allergies, it is breathable and therefore prevents sweat irritations and bad odors. In fact, if you leave it outdoors for a few hours, it loses all bad odors, so you can reduce washing, saving time and energy!

The last point to address is shrinkage. For example, linen trousers can shorten after washing, but absolutely not in the case of Lino & caffè garments. If the washing instructions mentioned above are followed, there is no danger of the garment shrinking. All the fabrics I use are washed before the garment is cut. Usually, this phenomenon occurs when an item has not been pre-washed or is not pure linen; a mixed fiber, for example, with rayon, increases the possibility of shrinkage.
